The UntraveledRoad Music Collection

The personal music site of Kelvin Smith

This collection of classical music scores and recordings has been prepared as a public service and a personal hobby. Choral, organ, piano and vocal music are included. This music is all in the public domain and may be printed and copied without restrictions. The scores are PDFs and can be viewed and printed with Adobe's Acrobat Reader. The audio files are in the MP3 format.

The music we listen to and perform indicates something about the way we view our world. In our increasingly secular world we hear much music that conveys a feeling of Godlessness, apathy and complacency. The music included here expresses a different view of the world. It portrays a sense of order in the universe and meaning in life, a respect for God, and a sense that man can rise above the weakness of human nature. It is in this spirit, the desire to promote these attitudes, that this music has been collected here.

Most of the choral music does not include the accompaniment, with the idea that the director and accompanist will use a score from a separate source. The choral music is all layed out on 8.5 x 11 sheets.

The organ music is layed out on legal size sheets in landscape orientation. A growing number of the organ pieces include fingerings. These I have copied from my scores and are nothing more or less than the fingerings that I use. I hope they will be of use in getting a handle on some of these pieces. They contain a few tricks that I didn't think of the first time through. Generally they assume five finger patterns, and indicate changes when necessary. They avoid substitutions which are prone to breakdowns under pressure, and use a lot of crossings. Pedaling is all marked under the staff with the symbols pointing up or down to indicate which foot to use (up is right foot, down is left foot.)
