Tuff Cliff

Dense clouds of volcanic ash once flowed across this land. Rock fragments
in the ash were so hot that they welded together and flattened as they
settled. A series of such ash flows formed te light colored rock, a welded
TUFF, exposed in the cliff above. Water, frost and roots erode the cliff
today. Severe earthquakes cause sudden rockslides. The boulders around
you are evidence of the continual erosion of the cliff.
