Jackson Hole
Ventre mountains was named Jackson's Hole in 1829
by William Sublette after his partner, David E. Jackson,
who loved to trap there. The early fur hunters
called any mountain-encircled valley a "hole."
It was changed to Jackson Hole in the 1920's
for the sake of brevity.
