Located along the Yakima River in the forested Cascade Mountains, east of Seattle, Easton began as a logging camp in the 1880s. The town's importance increase when the railroad was built. As of the year 2000, 383 people live in Easton. A few streets on either side of the railroad are lined with quaint old houses and modern commercialization doesn't seem to have noticed the town.

Two nearby lakes provide recreational opportunities right next to Easton. Lake Easton lies right next to the town, and has been developed as Lake Easton State Park, with camping, boating and picnic facilities. Not far beyond Lake Easton is Lake Kachess, a large natural lake that extends for miles between ridges of the mountains. Iron Horse State Park preserves a stretch of the original railroad grade starting at Easton and extending some distance to the east. In addition to these, numerous hiking trails are found in the surrounding mountains.

Easton is at 2,151 feet in elevation. Interstate 90 passes right next to the town.
