The small community of Huntsville lies in the center of Ogden Valley, a small valley surrounded by the Wasatch Mountains. The When the Huntsville Reservoir was built, it approached the town both on the north and the south, leaving it on a penninsula. With the reservoir, a nearby ski resort, and picnicing and camping in the nearby canyons, Huntsville is surrounded with recreational opportunities. Ranches and farms cover the surrounding valley, giving way to the forested slopes of the mountains.
Jefferson Hunt, his family and other settlers arrived in Huntsville in 1860, buying the land from the indians for 2 ponies and other payments made over a period of seven years. The settlement grew to 800 people by 1880 and is the main town in Ogden Valley. As of the year 2000, the population was 649.
