Rock and Water
Connection

The large rock outcropping
that you see here is dolomite.
It was deposited here long ago
when this area was covered
by an ocean! Water is still
connected to this rock. How?

If you look closely, you can
see how the water is helping
to take away pieces of rock.
What might happen when
water freezes in the cracks?
Right! Pieces of rock break
away. You can see them on
the ground.

FOOTNOTE Answer:
An aspen that has been wounded by carving is
more likely to be infected by disease and insects.
Carving puts the tree at risk!
