About Tropic
Tropic is nestled against the hills at the edge of Tropic Valley. Green fields cover the small valley, while the surrounding hills are dotted with juniper trees, sagebrush, and rocky outcroppings. In the distance the flat tops of mesas line the horizon. Bryce Canyon National Park is located in the mountains just west of Tropic. Tourism from the park only somewhat affects Tropic's lifestyle. Ranching maintains the highest influence.
Tropic was settled in 1892 by Mormon pioneers who came from Panguitch. It received its name on account of the milder climate they found here. The population as of the year 2000 was 508.
