Bright red formations of Aztec sandstone rise from the desert in Valley of Fire State Park. Some rise in great cliffs along the road, others in oddly eroded shapes alone or in clumps around the valley floor. Numerous trails, picnic areas and campgrounds provide opportunities to explore the formations.
Valley of Fire is Nevada's oldest and largest state park, dedicated in 1935. It is a short drive from Interstate 15, not far northeast of Las Vegas, and just a few miles from Lake Mead.
