Lava Flowers
Flowers need soil and moisture - so they grow
in the crevices.
Lichens arrive first and grow right on the
lava. Their acids erode the rock slowly. So
do wind, rain, and ice. That makes a little
soil, but the wind brings in the most. It
settles in the crevices.
Water settles in the crevices too, and the
shade makes it last longer
