Lava Hot Springs, Idaho VIRTUAL TRAVEL

Lava Hot Springs was a winter camp for Indians long before white men discovered it in 1812. It was part of the original Fort Hall Indian Reservation, but was later purchased by the federal government and the Idaho Dept. of Parks and Recreation now operates the springs.

The Portneuf River passes close to the springs and a narrow, hilly valley opens up to the west. The town was established against the hills south of the river and U.S. Highway crosses on the north side. As of 2000 the population is 521.
