Ripley is a small farming community in the Palo Verde Valley of southern California. The valley, covered with a patchwork of farmland, stretches for miles around, with barren, rocky mountains in the distance. The Colorado River passes a few miles to the east. A network of canals criss-crosses the valley, supplying irrigation water to what was formally a barren desert.
California Highway 78 passes through the town, coming from Blythe, a few miles to the north, and heading southeast to the Imperial Valley. The town is unincorporated with only a couple hundred residents. The elevation is just 245 feet above sea level.
