About Tusayan
Tusayan sits just south of the South Entrance of Grand Canyon National Park, and only a short drive from the South Rim of the canyon itself. An evergreen forest of ponderosa pine and juniper trees surround the town. Arizona Highway 67 passes northward through the town, a wide, four-lane street, on its way toward the Grand Canyon. Hotels, motels, restaurants and other tourist accomodations line the highway, and only a couple minor roads leave the highway. The town thins out quickly at any distance from the highway, and a few roads lead into National Forest lands.
Outside of the National Park itself, Tusayan is the most practical place to stay for a visit to the Grand Canyon. Its population, as of the year 2000, is 562. Even though the surrounding terrain is largely flat, the elevation is 6,600 feet, giving it a mountain climate.
