Welcome to Grand Canyon
You are at Mather Point on Grand Canyon's
South Rim
To the west is Grand Canyon Village, where
lodging, food, gas, and other services are
available all year. West of Grand Canyon
Village, West Rim Drive extends an
additional 8 miles (13km). West Rim Drive
is closed to private vehicles during peak
season; check THE GUIDE for details.
To the east is the junction with East Rim
Drive (Highway 64). East Rim Drive
parallels the canyon rim for 26 miles
(42km) to the park's east entrance at
Desert View. East Rim Drive is open to
private vehicles and provides
spectacular rim views. Highway 64
continues past Desert View, providing an
alternate route to Flagstaff, and the most
direct route to southern Utah.
